Illustration Friday: Time

The physics of Time are always an issue in speculative fiction--and in this post you will be traveling backwards (and forwards) in time as I explain my process. Because the subject and the process both involved time. On Friday the IF email showed up in my email: Time. So I started as I do by thinking about it and waiting for images to come. That evening, it was raining and the kids were bouncing off the walls so we hunted down a McDonald's with a playland. As we watched the kids play I told my husband, "Illustration Friday this week is Time."
"Oh." He said, "How are you going to do that?"
Hubby looked at his watch, "Five minutes!" He called out as our daughter went flying by. Then he chuckled, "That's the true theory of relativity; five minutes lasts as long as they are getting along."

But it gave me an idea. And I thought it would be so cute to use goats so I could have the pun about "five minutes, kids." But I couldn't get the goats to do what I wanted and I couldn't get the composition to come together.

So I reverted to a playground. The whole composition is from memory. So the boy on the right has some proportion problems. My husband pointed them out last night. I said, "I know, but I'm not going back and fixing it." Because at this point I'd been working on this for a long TIME. And I'm feeling a time crunch over my other life obligations as well.

This is a great post about the process and passage of TIME! I love how you explained the scene too.
I know what you mean when you start something one way and it doesn't quite come together the way you expect.
I like the playground idea. There's a lot of movement and the kids are certainly busy! ...and you got it all done on TIME!!!
