Illustration Friday: Resolve

I have to admit the first thought that went through my head for Resolve was carpet cleaner! But I was unsure how to illustrate that, so the idea that never quite gelled for last week came back and I found that it worked for this topic as well. The herons around here show a great deal of resolve, quietly waiting, staring intently into the water ready to strike an unsuspecting fish. I've watched them watching the water, hoping to catch them in action, but ultimately they have more patience than I do.

Happy New Year. I tried to think about my own resolutions--but with my life so recently turned topsy turvy I don't think I need to introduce anything else new. So I will just keep on learning my new location, looking for local friends, and getting the kids involved in activities.

OOh my Lord it wasn't just me. I thought of the carpet cleaner too he he he he! See we think a lot alike! This is beautiful. I plan to work more on animals this year and after looking at yours I really need to work on mine. This is simply beautiful. I love the use of shadow and color. Very nicely done Heather. Happy New Year to you too.

Beautiful use of color and shadowing! I have to admit, I thought long and hard about the carpet cleanser too! But, I figured there might have been copyright infringements, so that was not the way to go! lol!

The idea about the carpet cleaner is hilarious! I love the heron. As for resolutions, it seems like you have them covered. Getting used to a new place always takes some time. Happy New Year!

Heather, this is a gorgeous illo. The colors are lovely, and it's so quiet and peaceful. I love watching the herons on the canal by our house. Beautiful animals. (by the way, I also thought of the carpet cleaner - which works wonders on stains! :-) )

Aaah, the power of advertising!

You live near herons? That's wonderful! I'd love to watch you watching the herons watching the water for fish. :) This is such a beautiful painting. Happy new year, new town, new activities, new life!

Happy New Year, Heather!
There's something very peaceful about your illustration, the lines and simple color, it's very soothing.

And it seems you have the right attitude about dealing with moves and change. Every time we moved, I always like to see it as a new beginning! :-)

he is beautiful.

when i saw the prompt, i thought of my son, years ago, holding his breath in an effort to get his way...but i just couldn't draw it right, so i gave up on that angle.

i love birds. it makes me feel good to draw them. we have blue herons here in missoula. i love them. i feel a quiet sort of fortune when i see one.

your heron made me think of that. he illustrates 'a quiet resolve' perfectly.
