I'm an artist and educator, who is fascinated by how creativity expresses itself. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, and love exploring new ways to put images together.
I've been married for over 15 years, and have two children (who keep me up to date on my education!)
Red immediately brought to mind the image of my children playing in the surf in Port Aransas Texas two days after Christmas. I was struck by the contrast between the red shirts they both happened to be wearing and the water.
This seemed like an easy topic surrounded, as I am, by comic book lovers. But I took my inspiration from my own little superhero (who currently claims he is from Krypton and is only visiting us.) I returned to traditional media for this (watercolor colored pencils) There is definitely a different quality to a traditionally rendered work.
This week's Illustration Friday theme was difficult. How to visually interpret something so vague? Then I remembered my grandfather bought himself a Harley for his 80th birthday. He'd had one as a young man and well why not get another? My thoughts on inspiration today are about keeping the mind nimble. The more I challenge myself the more I open up opportunities for inspiration. I've learned this from grandparents who have continued LIVING, not just being alive, well into their 80's (and beyond.)
